FA Cup Final Week: Maybe...

Written by Patrick Stevens

Maybe it was 1975 and Crofty at school. Maybe it was Big Mal's Fedora, Peter Taylor's winner at the Bridge or Fiona Richmond in the bath? Maybe it was my dad waving my scarf in home end as we won 3-0  at Millwall.

Maybe it was Mr Heffernan giving me a lift on a Saturday; maybe it was the roofless Holmesdale end with Barry cheering on Billy, Jim and Doris.

It was definitely Kenny; It was Friday May 11th 1979 v Burnley; it was singing on the pitch till I was hoarse.

It was the team of the eighties. It was El Tel. It was Jim Cannon's volley. It was Vince Hilaire.

It was Wright and Mark Bright. It was John Salako, It was Andy Gray, It was Geoff Thomas. It was Sir Steve Coppell. It was Villa Park; it was Wembley; it was 8 minutes from history.

It was Europe (almost). It was sales. It was disintegration. It was half empty grounds; it was dire.

It was up; it was down. It was bloody Steve Claridge, it was Hopkin looking to curl one. It was Attillio Lombardo (Yes it really was Attillio Lombardo). It was administration; it was being a yo-yo. It was administration. It was almost all over. It was Dougie at Stockport in the last second.

It was Andy Johnson. It was bouncebackability. It was the Millennium Stadium. It was in the big time. It was Aki it was Hughesy. It was goal difference at Charlton. It was telling your boy it didn't matter; it was believing that money doesn't always buy you love or happiness.

It was administration again. It was Butterfield day. It was the edge of the precipice. It was Sheffield Wednesday away. It was do or die. It was Shaun Derry (he's better than John Terry and Stevie G) It was Alan Lee. It was Ambrose.

It was D day. It was the moment of truth. It was the fans. It was the protests. It was genuine tears of joy. It was salvation. It was new beginnings. It was a five year plan.

It was walking in a Dougie Wonderland. It was that goal at Old Trafford. It was FFS Murray. It was Ollie. It was Wilf at the Amex. It was Wembley. It was Super Kev. It was Dammo and Rambo. It was the promised land.

It was McJedley. It was the team and fans as one. It was John Terry scoring goals for Palace. It was Crystanbul. It was amazing.

It was the return of the prodigal son. It was Punch. It was Yala. It was Jules. It was Jedi. It was emotional.

But most of all, it was us. It was the fans; it was the noise. It is the passion. It is the hope. It is joy. It is the pain.

It’s bonds that last a lifetime. It’s father to son; it’s father and son.

It’s walking down Wembley Way, it’s remembering the journey and all who shared it. It hoping against hope that, finally, this will be the day. The day you will remember above all others. It’s the stuff of dreams.

Palace legends Andy Johnson and Shaun Derry to play against Brighton in fans charity match

Written by FYP Fanzine

Well this is massive news! Palace legends Andy Johnson and Shaun Derry have agreed to play with Eagles fans in the annual charity clash against arch rivals Brighton.

The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund clash takes place each year between Palace supporters and Seagulls fans in memory of Brighton fan Robert who was killed in the 9/11 attacks in New York City.

The fund has raised more than £150,000 for impoverished children in America, Africa and England in the 15 years since the attacks.

Johnson famously scored a hat-trick for the Eagles against Brighton in 2002 as the Eagles smashed their arch enemies 5-0 and Palace team organiser for the night Ben Long is hoping for a repeat of that on May 30th. He said: "As I said after the defeat on penalties last year, I would try and get some quality ex-pros on board and I am delighted that AJ has agreed to play for us.

"I look forward to him banging another hat trick in against Brighton and hearing another verse of 'Andy Johnson's Magic'

"Thanks to Steve Browett for speaking to AJ on our behalf, and hopefully his presence will see a few more Palace fans come down to support us, and help raise some more money for a great cause."

AJ told FYP: “I was delighted to be invited to play in the annual REMF game.

"It is a match that has much importance to a wonderful charity and to fans of both clubs.

"I will be honoured to play for the Palace team at Brighton’s Amex Stadium."

AJ is only 35 and played for Palace just over a year ago when he rejoined on a free transfer in the 2014 summer transfer window but played just one League Cup game. In his previous stint at Selhurst he scored 85 goals in 160 games and was voted into the club's Centenary XI side.

Derry played 99 times for the Eagles, some of them alongside Johnson, and captained the side in that infamous game against Sheffield Wednesday in 2010 when the club's future was in the balance.

They both follow in the line of some other former Palace favourites who have turned out in the charity game over the year, including Simon Rodger, Simon Osborne, Eddie McGoldrick, Robert Quinn and even Peter Taylor.

AJ's appearance will hopefully encourage plenty of Palace fans to attend the game, which takes place at Brighton's Amex Stadium on Monday May 30th at 6pm.

Tickets will be £5 for adults (with under 16s getting in free) and all proceeds from the night go to the charity.

Brighton lead the series 9-5 and Palace need to get a win back this year but with Johnson in the ranks the chances of that just went up massively.

If you can't make it on the night you can always donate to the cause here via its Just Giving page.

FA Cup Final Week: Get this CPFC Anthem up The Charts for Charity

Written by FYP Fanzine

FA Cup final songs tend to be absolute tat but Doc Brown has broken the mould.

Friend of FYP Doc, who has been on our podcast a few times most recently at the start of this season, has penned an unofficial FA Cup final song for Palace, and it's brilliant.

Aided by UK hip hop artist (and also massive Eagles fan) Verb T, Doc has released Glad All Over Again.

It's a hip hop track about Palace and has some of the best CPFC-themed wordplay you'll ever hear.

There hasn't been an official FA Cup song released by the club, or any word of one coming, but they shouldn't bother as this is as good as it gets.

You can now buy the single here, with profits going to the Crystal Palace Football Club Foundation:

Is Yannick Bolasie releasing a Palace-themed FA Cup final rap song?

Written by FYP Fanzine

Ok this might be the most amazing thing ever.

After the crazyness of Sunday's FA Cup semi-final win over Watford there are so many questions Palace fans are asking themselves: What kit will we wear in the final? What team will play? When are tickets on sale? Is this all actually a dream?

But one of the main questions is: Will Palace release an FA Cup final song?

The last time we made it to Wembley for an FA Cup final the 1990 square recorded their own version of 'Glad All Over' and after Sunday's win Alan Pardew suggested that maybe the club should release a rap version or something similar.

Well now it looks like that might actually be on the cards, thanks to Yannick Bolasie's social media.

The Palace winger, who scored the opening goal on Sunday, posted a video of him getting a massage on Tuesday night but in the background was a rap song that sounds very much like a Palace-themed FA Cup final special.

We think we speak for everyone when we say this NEEDS TO HAPPEN!
