Brighton charity supports local Palace side - donates £5,000 to Sutton Eagles

Brighton based charity the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund has kindly doanted £5,000 to a team local to Crystal Palace.

Sutton Eagles are the beneficiaries of the donation from REMF, with the money going specifically to children with special needs in Sutton and the surrounding areas.

Palace have been supporting the fund - set up in the wake of the death of Seagulls fan Robert in the 9/11 attacks 14 years ago - for over a decade.

Fans from both clubs meet each other annually for a charity match at Lewes' Dirpping Pan stadium, with brighton currently leading the series 9-5.

"This donation also recognises the contribution from Crystal Palace fans supporting the REMF, making sure the money we raise also goes back to their community, as well as The Albion's," said REMF in a statement on their site.

"Without them, REMF wouldn't be as successful as it is today."

Since the fund was set up in 2011 it has raised more than £150,000 for charities in Sussex, Africa and America as well as Croydon. Amazing to see two rivals coming together to do so much good.

Manchester United set Wilfried Zaha's progress back a year, says Alan Pardew

Written by Robert Sutherland

Palace boss Alan Pardew reckons Manchester United set Wilf Zaha's progress back at year.

The Eagles winger moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 but was nver really given a chance under David Moyes.

He played just two Premier League games before a disastrous loan to soon-to-be-relegated Cardiff.

But the South London born lad has refound his form since returning to Palace, first on loan in the summer of 2014 and then permamently in January 2015.

“Manchester United took a risk, really,” Pardew told reporters. “Because he hadn’t done it at Premier League level. Maybe you could argue he needed a year in the Premier League to really develop and the year going to Man Utd set him back, there’s no doubt about that.

“He didn’t get game time, didn’t get the experience, he was trying to get into a great team. It’s very difficult. Sometimes I think these big clubs take players too early and they’re literally taking talent without really consideration to how it’s going to work in the team.

"Manchester City you could look at a number of players, [Scott] Sinclair, people like that, [Jack] Rodwell, it’s very difficult to get it back. You’ve taken a very important year out of someone’s career.

“Therefore, my job is to get him to understand the level of the Premier League and how to perform consistently. There’s no doubt he’s good enough for the Premier League. No doubt. But consistently week in week out, effecting the game, scoring goals, assists - this is where he will be measured.”

Zaha came in for criticism from Pardew after being hooked at half-time last Sunday at Tottenha, but after starring in Palace's Capital One Cup victory over non-rivals Charlton this week, Pardew praised Zaha for his progress since returning to SE25.

He added: “Wilf has done a lot of things well since I arrived at this club. His defensive attitude has been on the money. His ability on the ball is on the money. He’s a very good player, one of the best to work with on the ball. It’s getting him on the ball which is the next phase for him and the end product.

“I spoke to him about that, these two factors that one of them cost him possession at Tottenham, his concentration in getting on the ball. He corrected that at Charlton.

"He was much more alive to situations, he got more of the ball and therefore he had more success and had a hand in the first goal which was important. He’s answered me in nnthe exact manner I expected him to."

Welcome to New FYP!

Written by Robert Sutherland

NewFYPWelcome to the BRAND NEW FYP Fanzine website!

After a change of badge, the natural progression was to change the site that the badge was on - and after a few months of work, we're pleased to show you what we've come up with. We think there are a whole host of features that you'll like.

The first thing we think you'll notice is the new URL. Short, sharp and easy to remember, it makes a nice change from the long-winded, four-worded effort we had before.

We also think you'll notice the brightening up of the entire site. With Palace's future being as bright as it is, we've decided to let the light in a bit, too. It's a bit of a change but the old site looked a bit weathered, and this one has given it a lick of paint.

As far as features go, we've designed the site so that you can get league tables, match details and more all from our Match Centre, as well as on the front page.

We also realise that there are times when you might want to comment on an article - so we've integrated Disqus, which allows you to login with your Facebook, Twitter or Google accounts. It'll allow you to comment on that opinion piece, right under the article in question. We're hoping it'll encourage you to have your say a little more.

You'll now also be able to listen to our podcasts and watch embedded videos right on our site, so you won't have to open new pages just to get the content that you want to see or hear.

Finally, we also know how important images are, and our new layout gives these a little more prominence in articles.

We're always looking for more ways to improve, so if you have any ideas, let us know in the comments below!

Scott Dann has BIG plans for Palace and himself

Written by Robert Sutherland

Scott Dann wants to play for England AND lead Palace into the Champions League.

No, this isn't something from Football Manager, the Eagles centre-back really does have huge plans for the club.

He said to the Telegraph: “I’ve been playing in the Premier League for a while now and I think playing for your country is the pinnacle.

“Obviously playing in the Champions League and Europa League are aims as well and hopefully we can achieve that with Crystal Palace in the next few years.”

Palace are ceratinly on the way up but Europe could be a few years away, Scott.

The confidence in the current squad is unbound though, clearly.

And Dann also spoke about his plans to get in the England squad for Euro 2016, something Palace fans have been calling for for a while.

“But I think playing for your country…You can see what it means. There’s a lot of competition out there, it’s a tough league and we’ve got some really good players so it is difficult to get in the squad. But it’s not impossible,” he added.

“I would love to play for my country and until I have not got any more chance of playing I will keep trying. All the work I put in day-in, day-out, I will keep working hard and hopefully one day I can do it. It’s an ambition and it’s something I would love to do.”

Crystal Palace announce 25-man squad for 2015/16 Premier League season

Written by Joe Bloggs

Palace have announced their 25-man squad for the 2015/16 Premier League season.

All five summer signings are in there and there are no real shock omissions from Alan Pardew's squad.

Players who are under 21 don't have to be included which is why the likes of Sullay KaiKai and Jake Gray aren't in there.

There's no space for former captain Paddy McCarthy but with four centre-backs ahead of him in the pecking order expect to see the Irishman head out on loan again soon.

Also Jonny Williams' exit is notable although he is still 21 so may come under that aforementioned policy.

Otherwise it's a pretty strong looking squad indeed.

Here it is in full:

Patrick Bamford

Yannick Bolasie

Yohan Cabaye

Fraizer Campbell

Marouane Chamakh

Scott Dann

Damien Delaney

Dwight Gayle

Brede Hangeland
